The Design Process
As with most projects, the initial phase of design consists of research. For this project, the country of origin was Tunisia, so design choices were based on my research of the culture of Tunisia, such as the name for the product (“halwaa,” which translates to “sweet” or “candy”), and my choice of the Fennec Fox, which is indigenous to Northern Africa.

The Illustration Process
This process is very similar to the process of traditional printmaking, but is uses hand-drawn elements which are then scanned. In traditional printmaking, each layer would be printed in the desired color, directly on top of the previous layer. In this process, however, after scanning the images, Adobe InDesign is used to colorize and assemble the components.
The layering process gives the illustration depth, and allows for precise control of the color of individual elements. It also offers more flexibility than traditional printmaking, as individual elements can be altered/redrawn and replaced in the final assembly with relative ease.
